A Review of Meditation from the Psalms
As a rule, I don’t review books or manuscripts written by friends and family. It causes unnecessary stress. So you can imagine my deep reservations when a friend asked me to review her book. I didn’t want to but eventually I gave in because, well, we’re friends.
Meditations from the Psalms is a 30-day devotional based on – you guessed it – the psalms. Being a devotional writer myself, I know how difficult it is to strike the right balance between ministering to people, drawing them closer to God and being condescending. It is a tough call but Onabowu has got it right in her book.
The reassurances of God’s faithfulness to us in difficult times are in there, interspersed with guidance on making the right choices. The language is easy, not trite. The book itself manages to be inspirational without being twee and above all, it is clear that the writer knows what she’s talking about. There is a deep sense that she has studied the psalms and indeed, has written the meditations out of deep worship and a desire to present the psalms in a fresh way to her readers.
I used Meditations from the Psalms every day as part of my daily devotional and actually enjoyed using it.
Heartily recommended.
