My Personal Reading Recommendations to Commemorate The Bi-centenary of the Abolition of Slave Trade act
On 25/03/07, millions of people around the world will gather together to commemorate 200 years of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act and raise awareness of modern day slavery. It is doubtful if slavery would have been abolished without the vigorous opposition of true Christians such as John Wesley and William Wilberforce who campaigned against it.
The following books and websites are my personal recommendations.
Classic Narratives/Ed. Henry Louis Gates Jnr./Signet Classics An excellent compilation of the following well-known slave narratives:
The Life of Olaudah Equiano. You may also want to check out Brycchan Carey's website on Equiano. Fascinating stuff.
The History of Mary Prince

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
For an insight on modern-day slavery, you might want to check out
