Spiritual Superstar Syndrome© (triple S)

This phrase came about as a result of certain observations made within Christian circles. Try my test to see if you have been struck by this malady. But then again, if you have the Syndrome, you probably would in all likelihood disqualify yourself :-)

You know you have Triple S when…

No one understands your plans. Not one person. Not your pastor. Not the people in your cell group/bible study group/home fellowship group. Not your prayer partner/spouse/friend/saved relatives. They lack spiritual foresight.

You say, “God told me…” and people look at you as if you were an alien. You know within yourself that God speaks to you everyday. It’s not your fault they’re spiritually deaf.

You tell people the error of their ways and they take offence. Does it really matter if you chastise them in public?

You cut off all links with those who know you; after all they are not on your spiritual level.

You pledge money in church with your credit card knowing you cannot afford the repayments. You know God will provide. After all, He is no man’s debtor.

You wonder why terrible things are happening to you. Jesus said we would have trials and tribulations but surely, He did not mean you? You’re special, a child of God. Terrible things are meant to happen to the unredeemed.

A friend remarks you’ve put on weight and you respond, “I rebuke that in the name of Jesus!” You do not listen to negative words. They have power. The fact is, you are overweight. The truth is, you will lose that weight with God’s help. But you are not listening. You’re up there with Jesus.

You confuse superstition with spirituality. You refuse to tell your pastor/cell group/fellowship group/bible study group/prayer partner/friend/saved Mother you are expecting a baby. They don’t need to know everything about you. Telling someone is akin to tempting fate. Never mind the fact these same people fast and pray for you/your spouse on a regular basis. Never mind the fact that these same people will baby-sit your child. But then, you know best. You have a direct ISDN line to God. Everyone else has to make do with a dial up connection. But that’s not your problem.

You use your spiritual gifts to terrorise people. Yes, you are an official member of the Spiritual Terrorist Network. In fact, you’re one step away from being Divine Spiritual Terrorist.

You refuse to admit you missed it.

You refuse to admit that just because you disagree with a fellow believer does not mean they’re wrong. Paul and Barnabas disagreed over Mark, but what do they know? You have the apostolic anointing.

You just know you are on the same level with Benny Hinn/Pat Robertson/Reinhard Bonnke/Charles Spurgeon/Kathryn Kuhlman/John the Baptist/the Apostle Paul/the Sons of Thunder/Stephen the martyr/Jesus. The world just cannot see it. Yet.

You are highly offended by this article.

I just wish most christians will read this. Honestly we have lot of SSS's(i call them "highly spirituals") in our midst. But sometimes with what i see happening to these, i really wonder if they really understand what they claim to know & hear.
